Here is an environment modeling and texturing I made travelling in Jerusalem. I got inspired by the stones, the textures and the beautiful ancient atmosphere in the old city. Seeing this stone pattern every wanted to recreate this very particular atmosphere in this 3d environnement. I shot a lot of reference, and started create, I wanted something not very Realistic in the proportions, as if it was in the imagination but I wanted to get exactly the texture of the stones, and feel like I could touch it from everywhere.
So I created this from scratch, from the texture to the modeling. I first created the texture of the stones with substance designer , so I could easily create subtle variations in the pattern of the stones and keep the same level of details from one Texture to another. Then I modeled the assets on Maya, I sculpted some details for the colums and the stairs with Zbrush textured with Substance painter and then I set the scene in Unreal Engine, for the purpose of real time rendering, in order to have a quick render.
Screenshots from my Unreal scene, in order: 1 High poly model, 2 Low poly Model, 3 Basecolor.
My Substance Designer project for the texture of the stones I created.
Here's an exemple of subtle variations in the pattern of the stone I created.
